Cougar Pride

Corbin J. Robertson Society The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has created a giving society to serve as the cornerstone for the critical support needed to restore Cougar Athletics to its greatness.

The Corbin J. Robertson Society is named for one of the major benefactors of Cougar Athletics over the past half-century. Robertson and his wife Wilhelmina, along with his in-laws Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen and their families, have given over $100 million in grants and endowments to the University of Houston, starting with Roy Cullen's gift of UH's first building in 1938. Just as his father-in-law was there during the infancy of the University, Robertson was there at the birth of its athletics program.

Robertson worked closely with former UH Director of Athletics Harry Fouke and became instrumental in the recruitment of coaches for football, basketball, and golf. Robertson was responsible for attracting fans, prospects, and attention, helping to create the nationally-ranked programs of the 1960s and '70s.

In 1980, the UH football stadium was named to honor Robertson for his foundation support of the Cougar athletics program. In 1983, the family donated $3 million to give Robertson Stadium a facelift for the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Additional renovations followed in 1995, 1996 and 2001.

In the spirit of our earliest athletics donor, UH Athletics has created the Corbin J. Robertson Society to recognize long-term commitments to the goals and ideals of a strong, vibrant, and fiscally responsible intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Houston.

Each membership in the Corbin J. Robertson Society underwrites the current cost of one full athletic scholarship. Currently, more than 300 student-athletes benefit from scholarship support.
