Feb. 13, 2007

HOUSTON - The University of Houston has been named to the National Consortium for Academics and Sports' Degree Completion and Community Service Honor Roll for the 2005-06 year.

This is the second consecutive year that Houston has been named to the honor roll based on outreach and community service by its student-athletes and the University's success rate with graduating returning fifth-year and sixth-year student-athletes.

Member institutions are asked to play an active part of the graduation of their fifth-year and former student-athletes. Student-athletes that have exhausted their athletic eligibility are asked to participate in the Athletic Department's community service and outreach program. Their community involvement includes speaking at to local youth about the importance of getting an education, volunteering as camp counselors, and appearances at school career days and health fairs.

The NCAS Annual Conference will take place on Feb. 19-21 in Orlando, Fla. Houston and the other honor roll recipients will be honored at a luncheon on Feb. 20.
