University of Houston Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades issued the following statement Thursday afternoon addressing the Houston Chronicle post written by Joseph Duarte on future renovations of Hofheinz Pavilion/practice facility construction.
"As we continue to move forward with the construction of our new football stadium, we know our fans are curious about the planned renovations of Hofheinz Pavilion.
As Dr. Khator has mentioned to University of Houston faculty and staff, we will begin the formal process, including all necessary approvals, for this project with a target construction date for late this calendar year.
This is an aggressive timeline, however, these renovations and the addition of a men's and women's practice facility (shortly thereafter) are critical to the future success of both programs.
This is an exciting time in Houston Athletics, and we look forward to sharing additional details regarding our vision for these facilities soon. When appropriate, we will make our great fans aware through all possible media."
