March 27, 2012
HOUSTON -
Setting a school record, 164 University of Houston student-athletes earned a place on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2011-12 school year.
It marked the second straight season that a record number of Cougar student-athletes earned a place on the Honor Roll. A year ago, 140 student-athletes received the academic honor.
In addition, the 24-person improvement from a year ago was the third-best total among all C-USA teams this season.
Each Cougar sports program was represented by at least four student-athletes on the Honor Roll. The Baseball team led all Houston programs with 25 student-athletes, while the Football team was a close second with 24.
The Softball program led all women's teams with 19 honorees with women's track and field coming in second with 13 selections.
On Wednesday, the recipients of the All-Academic Medal will be announced. That academic award is given to those student-athletes with cumulative GPAs of 3.75 or higher.
