March 28, 2012

HOUSTON - For their outstanding academic work throughout the 2011-12 school year, 15 University of Houston student-athletes received the Conference USA Academic Medal on Monday.

Medals are given to those C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 or higher.

Eleven Cougar teams were represented on the list with Swimming and Diving, Tennis, Women's Track and Field and Volleyball leading the way with two recipients apiece. Baseball, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Men's Track and Field, Football, Women's Soccer and Softball each had one recipient.

Wednesday's announcement comes a day after a record 164 Cougar student-athletes earned a place on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. That award is given to those student-athletes who have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

This marked the second straight season that a record number of Cougar student-athletes earned a place on the Honor Roll. A year ago, 140 student-athletes received the academic honor. In addition, the 24-person improvement from a year ago was the third-best total among all C-USA teams this season.
