BASEBALL
Last Week
Houston pitchers Trey Cumbie (13th/390), Aaron Fletcher (14th/431) and Joey Pulido (32nd/956) were drafted on the final day of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.

Notes
Cumbie, a left-handed junior, was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th Round at Pick No. 390 … One round later, junior lefty Aaron Fletcher was selected by the Washington Nationals at Pick No. 431 in the 14th Round … Senior righty Joey Pulido rounded out the drafted Cougars on the final day as he was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays at Pick No. 956 in the 32nd Round … Houston has a running total of 149 drafted players and has had a Cougar drafted in 20 of the last 21 years … Of the 145 players drafted all-time, 42 were drafted among the Top 10 rounds … In eight years under Head Coach Todd Whitting 32 players have been drafted and of the 32, 26 were undrafted heading into their college careers at Houston.


MEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week
Houston announced it will face Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., on Dec. 8 during the 2018-19 season as part of a home-and-home series with the Cowboys.

Notes
Game time and broadcast network for the Cougars’ road contest this season will be announced in the near future … Houston will meet the Cowboys inside the Fertitta Center during the 2019-20 season on a date to be determined … This season’s meeting will be the first time the Cougars have faced Oklahoma State since March 12, 1965, during the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional in Manhattan, Kan. … Houston has not squared off against the Cowboys in Stillwater since Feb. 22, 1958 … Coming off one of the program’s best seasons in decades, Houston Men’s Basketball fans can begin preparing for the 2018-19 season when the Cougars compete in the $60-million Fertitta Center for the first time with the announcement of season-ticket pricing … Fans now have the opportunity to take their first steps toward the 2018-19 season by placing a $30 deposit on 2018-19 season tickets at UHCougars.com/mbbdeposit or by calling 713-462-6647 … For the seating map and more info, click here.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week
Houston learned its American Athletic Conference pairings for the 2018-19 season with an announcement from league officials on Friday.

Notes
Play in The American this season will consist of a 16-game schedule with each school playing five of its 11 opponents twice, while meeting six opponents once each -- three at home and three away … Houston will face reigning four-time conference champion UConn in a home-and-home series as well as UCF, USF, Temple and in-state rival SMU … The Cougars will meet ECU, Tulane and Tulsa at home only, while Houston will face road only tests against Cincinnati, Memphis and Wichita State … Dates and times for Houston's games in The American for the 2018-19 season will be released at a different date.


FOOTBALL

Houston legend Elmo Wright was named to the 2019 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced Monday.

Notes
The ballot includes 76 players and six coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 100 players and 32 coaches from the divisional ranks … A consensus All-American in 1970, Wright was Houston’s first NFL Draft First Round selection, selected 16th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1971 … Wright, who was a second-team All-American in 1969 and an honorable mention All-American in 1968, still holds two NCAA records from his 1968 season -- most TD receptions of 50 yards or more in a season with eight and highest average per touchdown catch in a season with an average of 56.1 yards per score … A high performer on and off the field, Wright earned Academic All-America honors in 1969, and in an era that Houston was one of the nation’s leaders in rushing, managed to make his mark in the air … To this day, he still owns five Houston records -- all-purpose career average yards per play (21.0), yards per reception in a season (27.9 in 1968), yards per reception in a career (21.9), 200-yard receiving games in a season (2 each in 1968 and 1969) and 200-yard receiving games in a career (4) … In three years of competition with the Cougars, Wright finished his career with 153 receptions for 3,347 yards and 34 touchdowns … His 34 touchdown receptions rank second in Houston history while his 3,347 yards rank fourth … He also ranks second in UH history with 15 career 100-yard receiving games and is one of only three players in Houston history to record multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons, the only player to do it in a three-year career … The announcement of the 2019 Class will be made Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, in Santa Clara, Calif. …  The 2019 class will officially be inducted during the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10, 2019, at the New York Hilton Midtown … Houston fans looking to join the #HTownTakeover and become new season ticket holders can do so now with new season tickets now available for purchase at UHCougars.com/tickets … 2018 season tickets for the six-game home slate start as low as $100 with any seat not sold to season ticket holders in 2017 available for purchase … A full map of the 2018 season ticket price breakdown can be found at UHCougars.com/map … The 2018 Major Applewhite Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, June 18, at the Wildcat Golf Club … The event, which benefits the Houston Football restricted fund, is set for a 12 p.m. shotgun start with registration and lunch opening at 10:30 a.m. … For more information, click here.

Second-year Head Coach Diego Bocanegra announced the 2018 Houston Soccer schedule Wednesday.

The Cougars will play nine matches at Carl Lewis Complex, starting with a exhibition against Stephen F. Austin on Aug. 12 … Houston’s home matches feature non-conference meetings with Prairie View A&M (Aug. 24), Sam Houston State (Sept. 7) and McNeese (Sept. 9), and conference tilts against UConn (Sept. 20), Temple (Sept. 23), Memphis (Oct. 4), Tulsa (Oct. 7) and SMU (Oct. 26) … In conference, Houston will visit ECU (Sept. 27), Cincinnati (Sept. 30), USF (Oct. 18) and UCF (Oct. 21) … For the complete schedule, click here.


TRACK & FIELD

Houston’s Men finished in third place as a team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to conclude the outdoor season.

Notes
The Cougars finished with 35 points to take third place … The finish matched the program’s best finish at the NCAA Championships, finishing third for the first time since the 1959 season … The 35 points matched the second-highest total all-time and the most since reaching the same mark in 1984 … After qualifying seven student-athletes in the running finals, the men repeated as champions in the 4x100-meter relay … The group of John Lewis III, Elijah Hall, Mario Burke and Cameron Burrell turned in a time of 38.17 to claim the gold medal and set a Collegiate, NCAA Meet, Hayward Field and school record in the process … Burrell, Burke and Hall also ran as individuals in the meet, where Burrell ended his historic career at Houston in style with a gold medal in the 100-meter dash … The 2017 silver medalist in the event sped down the track in 10.13 to win Houston’s first individual title on the outdoor slate since Sam Jefferson in 1994 and is Houston’s sixth title all-time in the 100 … Hall claimed the silver medal in the 100, finishing just behind Burrell at 10.17 … Burrell and Hall became just the second duo from the same team in NCAA history to finish 1-and-2 in the 100-meter dash and the first since 1983 (Emmit King and Calvin Smith, Alabama) … Burke picked up a big point for the Cougars with an eighth-place finish in the 100 in 10.41 … The trio of Burrell, Hall and Burke all claimed First-Team All-America honors for their efforts in the event … Junior Kahmari Montgomery picked up two points in the 400-meter dash, completing the one-lap race in 45.75 to finish seventh … With his finish, Montgomery earned First Team All-America honors in the event … Houston wrapped up the NCAA Championship meet with a fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay … The Cougar team of Amere Lattin, Trumaine Jefferson, Burke and Montgomery completed the 1,600-meter relay in 3:04.03 to score four points for the Cougars and clinch the third-place finish as a team … Lattin, Jefferson, Burke and Montgomery earned First Team All-America honors for their finish in the event … Senior Brian Barraza ended his career in 3,000-meter steeplechase … Barraza held a comfortable lead for the majority of the race, however an unfortunate stumble over a hurdle on the final lap would cost Barraza valuable time … Barraza recovered and showed great heart to finish the race and pull himself back into the top-10, crossing the finish line in 8:44.42 … Barraza earned Second Team All-America honors for this 10th-place finish … In total, the Cougars sent 11 individuals in 13 events and two relays … For complete results, clock here … 2018 marked the 35th season (fifth consecutive) that the Cougars have been represented by the men's team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships … As a team, the Houston has finished inside the top-15 on 16 occasions … The women's team sent representatives to the NCAA Championships for the 23rd time in program history and the first since the 2015 season.
