Joining the Sports Information Office is Amy Abramczyk, the department's new Publications Coordinator and Assistant Sports Information Director. She will coordinate all athletic department publications as well as serving as the main liaison for the Lady Cougar basketball squad. Abramczyk arrives in Houston after spending the last two years as the Manager of Media Relations for the Milwaukee Brewers. She also spent one season as a Media Relations Intern with the Houston Astros.
Another new member to the UH staff is Michael Mercer, who takes over the newly-created position of Special Events Coordinator within the Development Office. Mercer spent the last year with the New Orleans Saints working within the Ticket Operations and Sales department. He began his career at Behavioral Health Center in Ohio coordinating marketing and special events.
Two other Houston staffers received promotions this month. Dashawnda Mayberry was promoted to Sports Information Assistant after spending the 1999-2000 season as the department's top student assistant. Mayberry recently graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology/sports administration. She serves as the department's liaison for women's soccer, women's tennis and softball.
Former graduate assistant Pam Waller recently was promoted to full-time as Assistant Athletic Trainer under the direction of Head Athletic Trainer, Mike O'Shea. Waller is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and worked as a trainer at Houston-where she obtained her master's degree-and Cumberland University-where she earned her bachelor's degree while also playing four years on the Cumberland softball team. Waller will serve as the athletic trainer for women's basketball and the cheerleading squad.
