MEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week
Houston Men’s Basketball announced it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Game of the Century between Houston and UCLA in 1968 and introduces the 2017-18 squad on Nov. 3 inside the Moores Opera House.

Notes
Members of the 1967-68 team, including Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney, will join host, CBS Sports broadcaster and UH alumnus Jim Nantz for a round-table discussion beginning at 7 p.m., Nov. 3, inside the Moores Opera House … Players and support staff members from the Game of the Century will share their memories about that game and the impact it still has on college basketball today … Legendary sports broadcaster Dick Enberg – who called the play-by-play action for the Game of the Century for TVS network – and CBS Sports analyst Seth Davis also will join the panel … Current Head Coach Kelvin Sampson will join the panel and offer his memories of that game … Sampson, his staff and student-athletes from the 2017-18 team will be recognized during the event … The event will then air in January 2018 as part of a documentary on CBS Sports Network celebrating the golden anniversary of the Game of the Century. Chip Rives and Emilie Deutsch will produce the documentary for CBS Sports Network … On Jan. 20, 1968, the Cougars defeated No. 1 UCLA, 71-69, inside the Houston Astrodome in front of a then-record 52,693 fans and watched by millions on television across the country. It was the first regular-season men’s basketball game shown on television and paved the way for March Madness as we know it today … Entering their fourth season under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars open their season Nov. 10 against McNeese inside H&PE Arena on campus of Texas Southern University … Will be the first of 15 regular-season home games in Houston … Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are on sale for fans … To enjoy 15 regular-season home games, fans can purchase Reserved season tickets for $200, while General Admission tickets are available for only $100 at uhcougars.com/tickets … Current season-ticket holders can visit uhcougars.com/tickets and follow the appropriate links to renew their season tickets online at any time … As the former Hofheinz Pavilion is transformed into the $60-million Fertitta Center, the Cougars will play their 2017-18 home games inside Health & PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week
Tickets for the 2017-18 University of Houston Women’s Basketball season are now on sale.

Notes
For the best value to enjoy all 13 regular-season home games, fans can purchase a Shasta Pass for just $80. With the Shasta Pass, fans enjoy admission into every Women’s Basketball home game as well as remaining Volleyball and Soccer contests and Softball games in the spring. Single-game tickets are also available for games throughout the Women’s Basketball season, starting as low as $3 for general admission and $20 for reserved floor seats if purchases are made online before gameday. Ticket sales on gameday or walkup sales begin at $5 for general admission and $20 for reserved floor seats. Lewis Development Facility … Entering their fourth season under Head Coach Ronald Hughey, the Cougars open their season Nov. 10 at Texas A&M as part of the Preseason WNIT … Houston will play 13 home games inside H&PE Arena on campus of Texas Southern University.

The Pre-National Meet, hosted by Louisville, serves as the final test before postseason competition begins … The Louisville course will also serve as the official site for the 2017 Cross Country National Championship meet.


FOOTBALL
Last Week
Houston Football improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in The American with a 35-22 win on Saturday inside TDECU Stadium.

Houston picked up its 34th win since the start of the 2014 season, tied with TCU for the most among FBS schools in Texas … The victory marked Houston's 11th straight American Athletic Conference win at home … The Houston offensive line didn't allow a sack to SMU … The Mustangs entered the game leading the nation with 21 sacks on the season … The Houston defense held SMU to 22 points … The Mustangs entered the game ranked third in the nation in scoring offense at 48.2 points per game and was one of two schools to score 36-plus points in every game played … Senior safety Terrell Williams recorded two interceptions to be named The American Defensive Player of the Week … With two turnovers forced, Houston now has 137 since 2013, the most among FBS schools … For full postgame notes, click here … Head Coach Major Applewhite held his annual press conference Monday … Transcribed quotes can be found here.


MEN'S GOLF
Last Week
The Cougars opened the 2017 fall season by tying for seventh with American Athletic Conference rival UCF at The Jackrabbit at The Prairie Club in Valentine, Neb. According to the best Houston records, it was the first time that Houston competed in the state of Nebraska.

Houston at Bayou City Collegiate Classic | Monday – Tuesday | Pearland, Texas (Golfcrest Country Club)

Notes
The Cougars join with Rice and Sam Houston State as hosts for this event, which begins with 36 holes Monday and continues with the 18 final holes Tuesday on the 7,254-yard, par-72 course … The tournament features 15 teams, which features Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Nebraska, SMU, Southern Miss, Texas State, UT Arlington and UTSA … Positions in the Insperity Dave Williams Cougar-Am remain open … The event is set for 1 p.m., Feb. 12, 2018, at Golf Club of Houston in Humble … Fans can receive more information about joining this fun event by clicking here.

The Cougars will play 36 holes Monday on the 6,491-yard, par-72 course with the final 18 holes on Tuesday … Houston will compete in a 15-team field, which features Arizona State, Baylor, Clemson, Furman, Houston, Kent State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma, San Diego State, SMU, Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech, UNLV and host Texas.


SOCCER
Last Week
The Houston Soccer team fell 4-0 to No. 10/21 UCF on Thursday and 4-0 to USF on Sunday.

Dimitrova posted a 4-1 record in the tournament. She defeated Baylor’s Livia Kraus (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) in the semifinals before falling to Baylor’s Theresa Van Zyl (6-3, 3-6, 4-6) in the event’s finals.


TRACK & FIELD
Last Week
Houston Cougar Track & Field Head Coach and legendary United States Olympic athlete Leroy Burrell was named as a 2017 inductee into the USATF National Track & Field Hall of Fame.

Notes
Burrell will be enshrined as a member of the 2017 class alongside Bryan Clay, Patty vanWolvelaere, Lindy Remigino and Bill Squires … The class will be inducted at the USATF Black Tie & Sneakers Gala in New York City, on Nov. 2 … Inductees will receive a commemorative Hall of Fame ring from USATF at The Armory in Washington Heights … Burrell made international headlines in 1989 when he helped the Santa Monica Track Club break the 4x200-meter relay in Koblenz, Germany … The squad also consisting of Assistant Coach and Houston legend Carl Lewis, Director of Student-Athlete Development at Houston, Floyd Heard and Danny Everett ran 1:20.26 to set the world mark … Just two seasons after his record-setting relay run, Burrell garnered his first individual world record when he ran 9.90 in the 100-meter at the TAC Championships in New York City … When his career was over, Burrell had set world record marks in the 4x100-meter relay as well as two more 4x200-meter relay times and a recapture of the 100-meter dash record in 1994 … At the collegiate level, Burrell claimed three NCAA Championships including a pair of long jump crowns in the indoor slate … In the outdoor circuit, Burrell claimed gold at the 1990 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a title in the 100-meter dash … Burrell returned to Houston as the head coach of the track & field program in 1998 after the retirement of legendary coach and his mentor Tom Tellez … In 20 years as head coach, Burrell has won 33 conference championships and has coached Errol Nolan to an indoor National Championship in the 400-meter dash in 2013 as well as the 2017 National Champions in the 4x100-meter relay.


VOLLEYBALL

Houston Volleyball split a pair of home American Athletic Conference matches, sweeping Memphis on Friday before falling 3-0 to No. 24 Wichita State on Sunday.

Against Memphis, senior outside hitter Sarah Afflerbaugh posted her third double-double of the season and 10th of her career behind a 10-kill, 11-dig effort … The Cougars recorded 11 blocks as a team, tying for their most in conference play and second most on the overall season … Houston’s 46 kills are the team’s most in a three-set match on the season … Against No. 24 Wichita State, sophomore libero Katie Karbo recorded 13 digs … The match marked Cougars' first against a ranked opponent since 2012 and first at home since 2010, as well as Houston’s first game as a department against Wichita State as a conference foe.
