MEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week
Houston Men's Basketball improved to 6-1 on the season with a pair of wins inside H&PE Arena. The Cougars defeated New Orleans, 75-66, on Wednesday, before routing Arkansas 91-65 on Saturday.

Against New Orleans, senior guard Rob Gray led all players with 23 points and career-high eight assists … Senior guard Wes VanBeck added 10 points with a pair of rebounds, while freshman forward Fabian White Jr. and senior forward Devin Davis tied for team-high honors with six rebounds each … Against Arkansas, the Cougars opened on an 11-0 run and never looked back in posting their biggest win over a Southwest Conference rival … Davis poured in a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds … For his efforts, Davis was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll … Junior guard Corey Davis Jr. added a career-high 17 points … After being held scoreless in the first half for only the third time in his career, senior guard and American Athletic Conference scoring leader Rob Gray finished with 11 points … It was the 61st straight game in which Gray recorded double-digit points … Junior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. led all players with nine assists and three steals in the win … Fans should note the starting time for the Fairfield game was recently moved up to 11 a.m., from earlier published schedules … The time was changed as part of Education Day with Houston Men's Basketball as the Cougars will compete in front of students from area Houston ISD schools … Fans can purchase Reserved season tickets for $200, while General Admission tickets are available for only $100 at uhcougars.com/tickets … As the former Hofheinz Pavilion is transformed into the $60-million Fertitta Center, the Cougars will play their 2017-18 home games inside Health & PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week
Houston Women’s Basketball posted a 3-0 record. The Cougars picked up road wins at Texas State, 72-67, Wednesday, and at UT Arlington, 62-58, Friday, before defeating Texas Tech, 79-75, in their home opener on Sunday.

The Cougars overcame deficits of eight-points or more in the second half … Houston’s five-game winning streak is the longest for the program since winning winning 17 straight from Jan. 6-March 10, 2011 … Sophomore guard Jasmyne Harris averaged 19.0 points and 7.7 rebounds to be named The American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the program’s first player of the week honor since joining the league … At Texas State, sophomore guard Jasmyne Harris had Houston’s first 30-point game since Porsche Landry on Jan. 6, 2013, finishing with 32 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth-career double-double … Sophomore forward Dorian Branch also finished in double-figures with 15 points, while junior forward Octavia Barnes added 11 … At UTA, Harris again paced the Cougars with 16 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals … Junior guard Serithia Hawkins added 14 points of her own, while tying Branch with a team-high six rebounds … Against Texas Tech, Hawkins and Brand each recorded career highs with 22 and 20 points, respectively … With four 3-pointers made in the contest, sophomore guard Angela Harris moved up to 15th all-time on the Houston 3-pointers made list, passing Nicole Oliver (71; 2000-04) and Shondra Bush (74; 2001-03) … Hawkins pulled down seven rebounds in the contest, giving her 537 in her career, passing Pat Luckey (536; 1993-96) for 15th on the all-time rebounding list.

Notes
The #HTownTakeover announced its participation in 2017 Hawai’i Bowl on Sunday … Houston will play Fresno State at Sunday, Dec. 24, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. CT … The bowl marks Houston’s 11th bowl appearance in the last 13 seasons and its fifth straight bowl appearance, the second-longest active streak in The American and only the second time the Houston program has accomplished the feat … Houston also announced future non-conference series with Boise State and BYU … The two series will kick off on Oct. 17, 2020, when Houston travels to Provo, Utah, to face BYU … The all-Cougar matchup will return to Houston on Oct. 7, 2023 … Two of the nation’s top 20 winningest programs over the last 10 years, Houston and Boise State will then stage a season-opening showdown in Houston on Sept. 4, 2021, before returning the trip to Boise on Sept. 7, 2024 … Sophomore defensive tackle Ed Oliver is a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy and Outland Trophy … The winner of the Outland Trophy will be revealed on Thursday, Dec. 7, on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta … Oliver was named The American’s Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday, highlighting five all-conference selections … Oliver and linebacker D’Juan Hines received first-team honors, while defensive back Khalil Williams a second-team accolade … Receiver Steven Dunbar and safety Terrell Williams earned honorable mention honors, respectively.
