Ashley Payne joined the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in July 2013 as director of marketing. In that role, she will work closely on the marketing efforts of football and other program, oversee the office's student program and continue to look for all ways to enhance the fan experience at Houston Athletics events.
Before joining the Cougars, Payne served for three years at Oklahoma as assistant director of marketing and promotions. In that role, she had direct oversight of the Sooner soccer, men's and women's gymnastics, baseball and softball programs as well as the Sooner Kids Club and the graduate and student assistant staff.
Five programs - soccer, baseball, softball and men's and women's gymnastics - saw increased attendance during her tenure.
During the 2009-10 year, she worked as an athletics marketing assistant at Alabama, where she oversaw the marketing and promotions of soccer, women's basketball, men's and women's tennis and Big Al's Kids Club. She also served as a producer for all men's and women's basketball games.
After graduating from North Carolina, Payne worked for two years at Gonzaga in a pair of roles. As a women's basketball fundraising coordinator, she contacted local community leaders regarding fundraising opportunities with the program as a part of group ticket sales.
As a marketing and promotions intern, she assisted in game-day operations and promotions for all sport programs.
Payne began her professional career as a baseball marketing intern at North Carolina. There, she increased campus awareness of the baseball program and created and planned promotional events for the season.
Payne received her bachelor's degree in sport and athletic administration from North Carolina in 2007 and earned her master's degree in sport and athletic administration from Gonzaga in 2009.
She is single and lives in Houston.
