Tara Boening joined the Athletics Department as a performance nutritionist in April 2010.
In that role, she is involved in nutrition education and program operations for all 16 athletics teams. She educates student-athletes through grocery store tours and cooking demonstrations.
Boening also assists with menu planning, food service operations, catering for team travel and pregame meals and assists with body composition testing and assessment for all student-athletes.
Before joining the Athletics Department, Boening worked for 18 months as a nutrition coach and personal trainer at Life Time Fitness in Katy, Texas. She also previously served as a consultant dietician at Abshire Dietary Consultants in Victoria, Texas.
Boening received her bachelor's degree in nutritional science in 2006 and earned her master's degree in kinesiology in 2007 from Texas A&M. As an undergraduate, she was involved in the Performance Nutrition programs for all 18 teams as a performance nutrition specialist.
She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Texas Dietetic Association and is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer.
Boening, whose last name is pronounced BAY-ning, and her husband Barry live in Richmond.
