Houston native Chris Burkhalter is in his ninth year as the Associate Athletic Director for Communications at the University of Houston. In this capacity, Burkhalter oversees Sports Information, Media Relations, Publications, the Internet and Radio and Television Services.

In addition to his role as the UH Athletics Department's SID, Burkhalter serves as the administrative liaison to the softball program, where he oversees the day-to-day operations of the program including budgets, scheduling, game management, facilities and operations and postseason event coordination. He also serves as the department radio/TV liaison to the Conference USA office.

Burkhalter returned to his hometown after serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1998-99. While at UTEP, Burkhalter oversaw the Media Relations office while serving as the liaison for the Miner football and men's basketball teams, as well as both golf programs.

Burkhalter went to UTEP after spending two years at Indiana State University, where he was the Assistant AD for Media Relations. He also has worked with the Texas Terror of the Arena Football League and the NBA's Houston Rockets, Northern Arizona University and the University of Wyoming.

Burkhalter began his sports information career as a graduate assistant at Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He earned his master's degree in European history from USL in 1992 and received his bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Texas State in 1989.

He is a member of the Football Writer's Association of American, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Touchdown Club of Houston.

Burkhalter and his wife, Kristi, have two sons, Mack (6) and Carson (1). He also has a daughter, Alexis, who turned 16 in July.
