David Bassity Named Assistant AD for Communications

Former Oklahoma assistant SID will join Cougars in early August

David Bassity joined the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as Assistant Athletics Director for Communications in August 2012 before being promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Communications in June of 2013.

In addition to his communications role, Bassity also serves as a sport administrator for the Houston Women's Golf program and has oversight of the UH Video Department.

Bassity came to Houston after spending the previous five seasons as a secondary contact for the Oklahoma Football program. During that time, he helped promote a Sooner team that appeared in five bowls, including three BCS bowls, and the 2008 national championship game.

He assisted in the Heisman Trophy campaign for 2008 recipient Sam Bradford and worked closely with seven other national award finalists.

Bassity was part of an Oklahoma Communications staff that received the 2011 Football Writers Association of America Super 11 award, presented annually to the nation's top media relations operations. He also received seven Best in the Nation awards for his sports' publications during his time at OU.

Bassity, who is a native of Chickasha, Okla., also served as the primary media contact for the Sooner Track and Field team and later for the 2012 Oklahoma Softball program which finished second at the Women's College World Series.

"We are excited to welcome David to the Houston Athletics family," Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades said. "He has played key roles on an award-winning staff at the University of Oklahoma. We look forward to new ideas and fresh perspectives that David will bring to our Department as we continue to promote our student-athletes and coaches through a variety of media platforms."

"I am very thankful to Mack Rhoades and Darren Dunn for this exciting opportunity," Bassity said. "Throughout the interview process, I could sense the excitement of growth from everyone associated with the University of Houston. The Houston Athletics program consists of a tight-knit family that has a passion for excellence and developing student-athletes, both on the field and off. It is one that is committed to progression, and I am genuinely thrilled to help the future endeavors of the program."

Prior to joining Oklahoma, Bassity served as coordinator for public relations on the 2006-07 Denny's Professional Bowlers Association Tour. In that role, he was responsible for all media relations duties for the Tour and nearly 60 professional bowlers, including proactive media outreach, interacting with national and local media covering PBA tournaments and securing potential PBA title and on-air sponsors.

During his career, Bassity has also served as a NFL sideline producer for Westwood One, the exclusive national radio carrier of the NFL and as a member of the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder game-night staff.

Bassity earned his bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Oklahoma in 2005. He is single and lives in Houston.
