Department receives two `Best in the Nation' awards.
Michael McGrory enters his fifth year with the University of Houston heading into the 2013-14 season, and his first third as an assistant director of communications.
McGrory is currently the primary contact for the softball and swimming & diving teams while also serving as the secondary contact for the football program. In addition to the media relations responsibilities, he also assists with the web design work at UHCougars.com and all social media endeavors.
Prior to becoming an assistant director, McGrory worked at the University of Houston Athletics Communications office as a communications assistant, serving as the primary contact for track and field and women's soccer.
Born in Kingwood, Texas and a graduate of Kingwood High School, Michael earned his graduate degrees in letters and classical cultures at the University of Oklahoma. After graduation, he returned to the city of Houston and finished his classwork for a Master of Education in sports administration while working as a graduate assistant at the UH Athletics Communication office.
He has worked all Conference USA Championships the University of Houston hosted since joining the staff in 2009 (swimming and diving, indoor track and field, softball and baseball). McGrory has also worked as a communications assistant during the men's basketball NCAA Regional (2010) and Final Four (2011).
Michael is single and lives in Houston.
