Helen M, Gore-Laird, Ph.D.
Helen M, Gore-Laird, Ph.D. is an academic counselor with the Department of Athletics at the University of Houston. She served as a Visiting Assistant Professor for the Human Development and Family Studies Program for seven years before joining the Academic Center for Excellence. Prior to coming to UH, she coordinated services for Augusta Place Transitional Living Program, a program for single, homeless mothers at DePelchin Children's Center. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and her Master's of Education in educational psychology at the University of Houston at University Park. She received her doctorate in Education Psychology - Individual Differences from the University of Houston from the College of Education. Gore-Laird specializes in adolescent and affective development. She has worked with the Protective Services Training Institute of Texas, providing training for those who work in child and adult protective services. She has authored several articles, presented several conferences, both nationally and internationally, and co-authored the books Think! Divergent Concepts on Theory and Practice in Educational Psychology and Carl Jung and other Mythologies: Freud and the Freudians. Her current book is Weaving Family Tapestries: The Construction of Families. Gore-Laird has served as a sponsor of a church youth group, a Girl Scout leader, service team chairperson for Girl Scouts, the vice-president of the First Colony soccer club and on various committees for schools, churches, and other civic organizations. She has served on the Board of Directors for Braes Interfaith Ministries and Oaks Lutheran Social Services in Oaks, Okla. She also helped found the First Colony soccer team. |
