Hideyuki Okuwa joined the University of Houston Sports Medicine staff in 2010 as an assistant athletics trainer. He works directly under head athletics trainer Mike O'Shea and the Houston Football team.
Prior to joining the staff full-time, Okauwa served as a graduate assistant athletics trainer at Houston from July 2007 to January 2010, overseeing the efforts of women's basketball and men's and women's cross country and track and field.
Okauwa gained experience during his undergraduate days as he worked as a student athletics trainer with Indiana State's football team from 2004 to 2006, while assisting in some capacity with eight other intercollegiate sports on campus. He also served a few off-campus roles as an athletics trainer at Terre Haute South High School and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana from 2005 to 2006.
A native of Japan, Okuwa earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana State University in 2007 in athletic training and went on to receive his Master's degree from Houston in December 2009 in sports and fitness administration.
