Jay Takach starts his eighth season as a member of the Houston equipment staff. As the assistant athletics director for equipment operations, Takach manages the day-to-day workings with Nike and supervises a staff that handles all 16 intercollegiate sports at Houston.

In the summer of 2007, he was promoted to his current position after spending one season as the director of equipment room operations. Takach arrived at the University of Houston in 2004 and immediately stepped in to assist football during the fall.

A Houston native, Takach came to UH from Virginia Tech, where he spent three years as an assistant equipment manager. While with the Hokies, he was responsible for inventory, away game travel, equipment maintenance and student manager supervision.

Prior to Virginia Tech, Takach spent one year at the University of Wisconsin, serving as an assistant equipment manager. He began his career as a student assistant at his alma mater, Michigan State.

During his career, Takach has been a part of 12 football teams that have competed in bowl games, including five at Houston.

Takach received his bachelor's degree in marketing from Michigan State in 2000 and later received his master's degree in health and physical education from Virginia Tech.

Takach is married to the former Maggie Wessel, and the couple lives in Houston.
