Cougars couldn’t overcome big innings
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University of Houston softball team dropped the second game of a three-game series to the Tarleton State University Texans, 9-1, in five innings on Saturday afternoon at the TSU Softball Complex.
Coleman paced the Houston (11-12) offense against Tarleton (14-12), going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double.
Tarleton struck first. The Texans used four walks and two hits to bring home four runs to earn the lead.
Houston got on the board in the third, as Coleman used her team-leading eighth double of the year to drive home Paige Hulsey and make the score 4-1.
Tarleton responded in its half of the third off a solo home run from Jordan Dickerson to reestablish a four-run lead. The Texans added another four runs in the fifth to clinch the run-rule victory, 9-1.
NOTABLES
· Coleman has reached base safely in 22 of Houston's 23 games this season. She's on a four-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in each of the last seven games.
· Emma Robertson reached base safely in six straight games.
