University of Houston Equipment Department
Student Worker Information
The equipment department handles the equipment purchasing, maintenance, issuance, storage and other assorted details for all 16 intercollegiate athletic teams at the University of Houston. Along with its equipment duties, the department is instrumental in the operation of practices, travel and contests for the Cougars.
Daniel Reeves joined the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as assistant athletics director for equipment operations in August 2014. In that role, he will manage the daily workings with Nike and supervise a staff that handles all 17 intercollegiate sports at Houston.
Travis Simmons joined the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as an intern with the Equipment Room in June, 2013 before being promoted to Assistant Director for Equipment Operations in August of 2014.
Simmons assists with the daily and gameday operations of the UH athletics equipment room. He oversees the daily set up and take down of the practice fields and helps direct the student equipment managers. He will also assist in transporting equipment to and from away games.
In addition to the full-time staff personnel, the equipment staff is assisted by numerous student-managers who are assigned a sport and are responsible for the daily maintenance, organizing, storing and laundry of the athletics equipment.
