    Houston Athletics Collects 22,000-Pounds For Star Of Hope

    The University of Houston collected more than 22,000 pounds of food during the "Let's SAAC Hunger" program, the Conference USA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee conference-wide community service initiative. The Cougars win the 2011 C-USA SAAC Cup, given annually to the institution collecting the most food by weight.     The University of Houston baseball team volunteered Sunday afternoon at the Birdies For The Brave charity golf tournament at Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club.

    University of Houston student-athletes from multiple sports volunteered Saturday morning at the Marathon Kids event that was held at the Tom Tellez Track.

    At 10 a.m., thousands of Houston area kids, kindergarten through fifth grade, along with their parents and teachers, gathered to kick off the 2011-12 school year. Participants ran or walked a ceremonial first lap at the track.
