HOUSTON - In Day 1 of competition at the Houston Indoor Invitational, Houston senior Krystal Ward came away with a second-place finish in the pentathlon on Friday night at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Ward took the lead in the in the third event of the pentathlon, the high jump, where she cleared a height of 5'10", besting the next closest competitor by 4.75".

However, she wasn't able to hold on to the lead as Ryanne Dupree of Texas-San Antonio jump out in front after the long jump and would hold on to win the pentathlon with a score of 3,942 to Ward's 3,878.

On the men's side, the duo of Donovan Kilmartin and Trey Hardee from Texas lead the heptathlon after the first day of competition with scores of 3,235 and 3,159, respectively.

Houston's Jarrett Flax and Nick Garza are in eight and nine place with scores of 2,674 and 2,655, respectively.

Competition continues on Saturday, Jan. 29 with the remainder of the heptathlon and the individual track and field events for all 13 participating schools. Action begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs through 6:00 p.m.
