HOUSTON – The University of Houston track and field team claimed three event titles just after the first day of the Houston Indoor Invitational and Multi Events.

Megan Frausto had a victorious debut in the pentathlon, notching the first event title of her collegiate career with 3533 points. On her way to the top, Frausto claimed two first-place finishes in the high and long jump in addition to a second-place finish in the women’s 800m run. Brittani Williams followed in second with 3276 points. Williams notched two first-place finishes in the 60m hurdles and shot put along with third-place finish in the long jump.

After Day 1 of the men’s heptathlon, Kevin Johnson stands in seventh place with 2548 points while Emmanuel Osadebey trails in 11th place with 2316 points.  

The women’s distance medley relay team, consisting of Kathryn Ducommun, Clarissa Payton, Ciera Johnson and Megan Munoz, took the event title as Munoz crossed the finish line at 12:15.78. On the men’s side – Nate Pineda, Jason Perez, Sammie Ivory and David Smith – finished third with a time of 10:23.47. The ‘B’ team, consisting of Derrick Joe, Garrett Hughey, Anthony Jordan and Brandon Broden, placed seventh, clocking 10:38.55.

Quin’shundolyn McPherson claimed a first-place victory in the women’s 200m dash ‘B’ section with a time of 24.68. Tara Prier placed third with a mark of 25.11, and Ciara Willis clocked 25.77 to finish in fifth place.

Rick Fenton threw a personal record in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 16.65m (54-07.50). His distance was the second best in school history.

In the women’s pole vault, Shannon Arnold and Karley King tied for seventh place with a height of 3.25m (10-08.00).

On Saturday
The Houston Indoor Invitational and Multi’s continue on Saturday, starting with the women and men’s shot put at 9 a.m. The first running event begins at 11 a.m. with the women’s 5,000m run. The meet concludes with the men’s 4x400m relay at 7 p.m.
