Track and Field Completes Day One of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational

NEW YORK - The University of Houston track and field team completed day one of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at The Armory on Friday. Sophomore Alicia Perkins took third-place overall in the women's 60-meter hurdles college event with a time of 8.69.
Sophomore Samatha Taylor started the meet off with a personal best in the women's shot put championship. The Corrigan, Texas native, threw the fourth longest mark (14.90m; 48-10.75) on the school's all-time list to take 13th overall.
Perkins improved from an 8.83 in the preliminary round of the women's 60-meter hurdles college to place third overall with a time of 8.69 in the finals. In the women's 60-meter hurdles championship, Sade-Mariah Greenidge also improved her time. The sophomore hurdler shaved .02 off her prelim time of 8.55 to finish 14th.
Senior sprinter Errol Nolan goes into tomorrrow's 400-meter championship finals with the third fastest time in the prelims (46.69) and the fourth in program history.
