The University of Houston women's 4x400-meter relay team of Keisha Howard, Tiffany Abney, Alicia Cave and Cheryl Garner posted an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships with a time of 3:35.18.

Houston won the first of three heats in the race, finishing ahead of Clemson, which had a time of 3:36.14.

South Carolina was the 4x400-meter relay champion after winning the third heat with a time of 3:30.01. LSU finished second in the heat and had the fourth-fastest time with 3:33.06. Miami finished third in the heat with the sixth-fastest time of 3:33.39.

Tennessee was the runner-up team after winning the second heat of the race with a time of 3:31.76. The Lady Volunteers beat Baylor, who had the third fastest overall time of 3:32.26 and Florida, which had the fifth fastest time with 3:33.20. Auburn finished fourth in the heat and seventh overall with a time of 3:34.89.

It was the third-fastest time in school history and is Houston's best finish in the 4x400-meter relay since 1994 when the Lady Cougars were the runners-up in the race.

The Lady Cougars open their 2005 outdoor season at the TSU Relays on March 18-19. Houston will host the Tom Tellez Invitational on March 25-26.
