HOUSTON – The University of Houston track and field team men’s and women’s teams won the Puerto Rico Spring Break Classic in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Saturday evening. The women outclassed the competition by 45 total points while the men defeated their foes by 27.5 points.
Grecia Bolton and Whitney Harris placed 1-2 and turned in nearly identical times at 11.64, a photo finish determined Bolton nudged Harris at the line.
The women’s relays took first in the 4x100m and finished second in the 4x400m.
Alysha Cook (third), Amber Sellers (fourth) and Tatiana Miller (sixth) showed well in the women’s 400m run.
John Fortune won the men’s shot put with a distance of 16.13m and won his first collegiate meet. The former state champion posted a personal best in the event.
Houston, as always, represented strongly in the long hump taking second (Lamar Delaney), fourth (Thomas Lang), fifth (Jonathan Williams) and sixth (Simon Stewart).

The Cougars return to action next Saturday at Rice University at the Victor Lopez Classic.
