SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After day one of competition, Emiliano Troitino sits second in the men’s decathlon events during the inaugural UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational.
In his first decathlon meet, Troitino scored 3,224 points and finished in the top two in two field events. The freshman leaped 6.35m (20’-10”) in the long jump, placing second in the event. He also finished second in the high jump competition clearing 1.83m (6’-0”).
Redshirt freshman Damon Thompson placed seventh in the men’s hammer throw recording his first collegiate mark of 50.21m (164’-8”).
Finally, multi-event athletes Cassie Wiley and Angelica Thompson competed for the Cougars in the women’s javelin throw. Thompson placed fifth with a throw of 40.70m (133’-6”) while Wiley finished eighth with a throw of 37.54m (123’-2”).
Day two of the invitational begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with the final five events of the decathlon. Individual field events and running events begin at noon starting with the men’s pole vault and women’s high jump as well as the 1,500m run.
