Day 1 Results
HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field teams have wrapped up day one of action at the Victor Lopez Invitational on Friday at Holloway Field/Ley Track on the Rice campus. Today's collegiate competitions highlighted the men's and women hammer throw along with the distance running events.
In the distance events, Senior Nate Pineda finished seventh in the 1500m run with his time of 4:01.15. For the women, fellow senior Ciera Johnson placed eighth with her time of 4:44.17, while Kat Ducommun followed close behind, finishing in 4:44.94 to take ninth place.
John Fortune was the top performer in the field events as he placed eighth in the hammer throw for the men with his toss of 49.35m/161-11.
The Cougars will return to Holloway Field/Ley Track on Saturday for the final day of completion. Competition is set to resume at 11 a.m., with the start of the men's shot put. Running events will begin at noon with the B section of the men's 110m hurdles.
