Baton Rouge, La.- - Bowman Wins Women's Hammer Throw

Shayla Bowman won the women's hammer throw and qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships with a throw of 177 feet, 5 inches at the LSU Relays. Bowman easily won the event, as her throw was 28 feet further than Kristi Stillwell of Ole Miss, who finished second with a mark of 149 feet, 2 inches. Allie Booker finished in fourth place with a throw of 143 feet, 11 inches, while Laura Yelverton had a throw of 123 feet, 7 inches to finish in 12th place.

In the women's pole vault, senior Jessica Edwards was the runner-up after clearing 11 feet, 3 ¾ inches. Senior Terie Littlepage also finished in third place in the women's steeplechase with a time of 12:29.29.

Ashley George led a trio of Lady Cougars in the long jump with an eighth place leap of 18 feet, 10 ¾ inches. Caresir Hamilton was 11th with a jump of 18 feet, 6 ½ inches, while Krystal Ward was 18th with a mark of 18 feet, ¼ inch.

Houston also had a sixth place finish in the women's 800-meter sprint medley relay with a time of 1:46.57.

In the men's division, Jason Edwards made his outdoor season debut in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 8 ¼ inches to finish in sixth place. Brandon Womack's jump of 23 feet, 1 ¾ inches put him in 11th place.

Houston also finished sixth in the men's distance medley relay with a time of 10:21.73.
