Walnut, CA - The University of Houston track and field teams conclude day one of the Mt. Sac Relays from Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday. Today highlighted the distance events ranging from 1,500m to 10,000m.

Senior Nate Pineda ran a personal best time of 9:11.30 in the 3,000m steeplechase competition, placing ninth. With his new personal best mark, Pineda is closing in on a regional qualifying spot. He is now 53rd in the region and the top-48 qualify. Pineda will look to improve his mark next weekend at the Penn Relays.

Fellow senior, 2011 NCAA cross country qualifier Wesley Ruttoh made his 2012 outdoor track and field debut, as he placed 21st in the men's 3,000m steeplechase competition with his time of 9:30.28.

In the men's 1,500m, Drevan Anderson-Kaapa placed 71st in the deep field of 134 competitors with his time of 3:52.99.

For the women, junior Kat Ducommun finished 14th in the 3,000m steeplechase competition with her time of 11:09.50.

UP NEXT
The Cougars return to Hilmer Lodge Stadium for the second day of the three-day competition, which will feature all track and field events.
