Senior Rick Fenton breaks school record in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 62.08m (203-8)

WALNUT, Calif. - The University of Houston track and field team wrapped up its final day of competition at the 55th annual Mt. Sac Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on Friday afternoon. Senior thrower Rick Fenton threw a school-record breaking distance of 62.08m (203-8) in the men's hammer throw.
In his home state, Fenton threw the record-breaking mark on his sixth and final throw to place fourth overall. With this throw, Fenton erased his previous record of 61.78m (202-5). On the women's side, sophomore Samatha Taylor tossed a season best of 14.54m (47-8.5) to take home an eighth-place finish in the shot put.
In the men's triple jump, sophomore John Horton placed second overall with a personal best of 15.66m (51.45). For the Cougar women, sophomore Khaylsia Mayo and junior Cassie Wiley both jumped 1.70m (5-7) to place sixth and 10th respectively in the high jump.
Sophomore Anthony Coleman finished first in his heat and fifth overall after crossing the finish line at the 1:50.47 mark.
The Cougars will take part in the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday. Houston will take to the track at 11 a.m., Saturday, with the women's 100-meter dash. The meet concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5:25 p.m.
