Houston records one third place and two seventh place finishes at Penn Relays

The University of Houston men's and women's track and field teams recorded a third-place finish, two seven-place finishes and advanced three relay teams to Saturday's Finals at the 2004 Penn Relays Carnivals.

Houston had a third-place finish in the college division of the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.64 seconds after advancing to the finals with a time of 45.43 seconds.

Caresir Hamilton finished seventh in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.13 meters (39-9.75). Rachael Easley also recorded a mark of 11.63 meters (38-2) in the triple jump to finish in 15th place.

Houston finished seventh in the collegiate men's Sprint Medley Relay Championship of America with a time of 3:24.21.

The Cougars advanced to the finals of the collegiate men's 4x200-meter relay Championship of America and the College Division Finals of the men's 4x100-meter relay on Saturday.

Houston also qualified for the final of the collegiate women's 4x400-meter relay with a preliminary time of 3:40.79.

Houston advanced in the 4x200-meter relay after finishing second in the sixth of eight heats with a time of 1:24.69. The Cougars also had a third-place finish in the sixth heat of the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 40.70 seconds.

All-American Stanford Routt finished fourth in the third heat of the men's 100-meter dash with a legal time of 10.68 seconds. Milton Manson finished sixth in the second of three heats in the men's 110 hurdles with a legal time of 14.29 seconds, while Andrew Carruthers finished in ninth place with a time of 14.58 seconds.

Houston also posted a 13th-place finish in the men's collegiate Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:05.89.

 

 

In the women's collegiate steeplechase race, senior Jessica Oakes finished in 17th place with a season-best time of 11:43.10.

Lisa Wilson had a seventh-place finish in the second heat of the women's 100-meter dash with a legal time of 11.89 seconds.

The rest of Houston's men and women track teams will compete Saturday at the Rice University Twilight Meet.
