Hubbard Sets School Record at Cal Collegiate Challenge

Berkeley, Calif. -- Freshman Brandon Hubbard set a new school record in the hammer throw Friday at the California Collegiate Challenge in Berkeley, Calif. The College Station, Texas native threw the hammer 48.28m/1580-05 to finish seventh. Hubbard beat his season best set on April 21 at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational. That throw had moved him into the school's Top 5.

Senior Lucas Mireles added a 10th place finish and sophomore Andy Tackett was 11th. Hubbard was also 12th in the discus with Tackett coming in 17th and sophomore Morgan Floyd in 21st.

Junior Ivan Diggs set a new season best with his win in the high jump. The Wichita, Kan., native cleared 2.15m/7-00.50. Senior Tristian Whitley came in a close third after clearing 2.05m/6-08.75.

Freshman Alex Bentley finished fourth in the "A" section of the pole vault with a clearance of 5.05m/16-06.75. Freshman Courtney Beasley was third in the "B" section after reaching a height of 4.75m/15-7.00.

Senior Paul Goodwin finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the night's distance events with a time of 9:46.30. In the 5,000 meter run, freshman Michael Malain was fourth with a time of 15:51.89.

 

 

On the women's side, senior Rachel Easley finished third in the high jump, clearing 1.65m/5-05.00. Freshman Ashley Bryant added a sixth place finish in the discus and freshman Jessica Cook was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Freshman Dayo Ogunniyi set a personal best in the long jump. Her leap of 6.05m/19-10.25 earned her a fourth place finish. Freshman Quin'shundolyn McPherson came in fifth and qualified for the NCAA Regional after clearing 6.00m/19-08.25.
