    SAN MARCOS, Texas– The University of Houston track and field team wrapped up the Texas State Bobcat Classic on Saturday evening. The Cougars recorded four season bests on day two of competition.

    Junior Cassie Wiley threw a season-best of 42.15m (138-3) in the women’s javelin to land at No. 5 on the program all-time list. With her throw, Wiley took home a seventh-place finish. Teammate Angelica Thompson threw a distance of 34.83m (114-3) to place 13th overall.

    In the men’s long jump, senior Simon Stewart leaped a personal and season-best of 7.36m (23-1.75) to take fourth, while freshman Sean Spiehler (6.69m, 21-11.5) and senior Kevin Johnson (6.58m, 21-7.25) place 14th and 19th, respectively.

    Senior Kathryn Ducommun led the way for the Cougars in the women’s 1500-meter run with a personal and season-best of 4:38.06. Ducommun erased more than two seconds off her old personal record in her third-place finish. Sophomore Taylor Beer followed in 10th with a personal-best of 4:45.96, while fellow sophomore Alexis Vick crossed the finish line at the 4:57.33 mark. On the men’s side, freshman Trevor Walker ran 4:08.48, while teammate John Cantu ran a personal-best of 4:12.83.

    In the men’s 800-meter run, junior Drevan Anderson-Kaapa notched the fastest time of the season (1:49.58). With this personal-best, the Kileen, Texas native, sits No. 5 on the all-time list. For the women, freshman Selena Sierra took home a 12th-place finish after running a personal-best of 2:18.48. Sierra’s time is the second fastest on the season.



    The Cougars will take a week off in preparation for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships on May 9-12 at Rice.
