Floyd, Guy, Marshall and Reeves Are Dual Winners As Houston Invitational

Houston- - Ebonie Floyd, LaDedra Guy, Jonathan Reeves, Preston Perry and Vincent Marshall each won two events to lead the University of Houston track and field teams at the Houston Invitational track and field meet at the Carl Lewis/Tom Tellez Track Complex Saturday afternoon.

Running in the first 100-meter race of her collegiate career, Floyd posted the nation's ninth fastest time and the third fastest time in school history with 11.29 seconds. Her time also is the second-best time in the Midwest Region this season.

Floyd is now ranked among the nation's top nine sprinters in three different events- 100, 200 and 400 meters after returning from a two-year layoff.

She also ran the anchor leg on Houston's 4x100-meter relay team that also included Octavia Garrett, Guy and Keisha Howard and posted a winning time of 45.46 seconds.

Guy also won the 200-meter dash with her best legal time of the season at 23.67 seconds, edging Lashandra Ratcliff and Quasheba Lee of Speed Concept. Ratcliff had a time of 23.76 seconds, while Lee posted a time of 23.85 seconds, Howard finished with the fourth-fastest time as she won her heat in 24.35 seconds.

Amanda Villanueva also was the runner-up in the women's discus with a throw of 46.87 meters (153-9).

In the men's division, Reeves won the discus with a career-best throw of 56.85 meters (186-6), and was the top collegian in the men's shot put with a mark of 18.03 meters (59-2). Steve Manz, who competed unattached, was the overall shot put winner with a throw of 19.76 meters (64-10).

 

 

Perry had the top collegiate time in the men's 200 meters with a career-best time of 20.61 meters and ran the second leg on Houston's winning 400-meter relay squad.

Marshall also won the men's shot put with a wind-aided leap of 15.05 meters (49-4.50), and ran the first leg on Houston's winning men's 400-meter relay team.

Joining them on the relay team was Tremaine Smith and Kolee Latson as they combined for a time of 40.15 seconds. That was Houston's fastest time of the season without Carey LaCour running the anchor leg.
