Floyd, 4x100 Advance to Finals At NCAA Midwest Regional

Des Moines, Iowa -- Senior Ebonie Floyd and the women's 4x100 team advanced to Saturday's final at the NCAA Track and Field Midwest Regional today in Des Moines, Iowa.

Floyd registered the fastest time in the 100 meter prelims with a time of 11.17. Her time sets a new season best for the Houston, Texas native and is the second fastest time in school history. She will compete in the finals at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday.

Floyd also ran in the 200 meter prelims and finished with a second place time of 22.71. The finals are at 5:05 p.m. Freshman Quin'shundolyn McPherson added a 16th place finish of 24.32.

Floyd and McPherson were also members of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished fifth with freshmen Hyleta Young and sophomore Seun Adigun. The team joined to finish the race in 44.65. They advanced to the finals at 3:10 p.m. tomorrow.

Adigun also finished 18th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.19 and sophomore LeeA'ndrea Robinson was 11th with a time of 13.93, not enough to advance to the finals.

On the men's side, junior Tremaine Smith was 14th in the 100 meter prelims with a time of 11.05.

In the field events, freshman Alex Bentley finished 14th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.91m/16-01.25. His height, however, was not enough to qualify him for the NCAA Championships.

In the discus, junior James Lee finished sixth with a throw of 56.34m/184-10.

 

 

Freshman Dayo Ogunniyi added a 13th place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.78m/18-11.75.

Senior Ivan Diggs and junior Tristian Whitley will compete in the high jump at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. Freshman Ashley Bryant and McPherson will compete in the discus and triple jump, respectively at 4 p.m.
