Stanford Routt and Tristian Whitley Advance At NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Austin, Texas - After entering the NCAA meet with the nation's best time of 20.03 seconds, Routt advanced to Saturday's final after winning his heat with a wind-aided time of 20.36 seconds. Routt had the fourth-fastest preliminary time behind Tyson Gay and Wallace Spearman of Arkansas and Brendan Christian of Texas. Gay had the fastest in the prelims with a legal time of 20.09 seconds.

Whitley was one of 14 competitors to advance to the finals of the men's high jump after they each cleared 2.17 meters (7' 1½").Whitley has cleared seven feet during every outdoor meet in which he has competed this season. He set a UH freshman record after clearing 2.20 meters (7-2½") earlier this year.

Routt and Whitley were the only Cougars to advance to Saturday's final events. Junior Andrew Carruthers had a seventh-place finish in the third heat of the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.02 seconds. He also had the sixth-fastest time in the third heat of the 400-meter hurdles with 51.33 seconds. Vincent Marshall finished in 16th place after he recorded a triple jump of 15.58 meters (51-1½).

In the women's division, LaDedra Guy had a sixth-place finish in the second heat of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.57 seconds. Guy had a fourth-place finish in the fourth heat of the women's 200-meter dash with a legal time of 23.48 seconds. Lisa Wilson had a sixth-place finish in the fourth heat of the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 11.61 seconds.

In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Alicia Cave registered a sixth-place finish in the fourth heat with a time of 13.39 seconds. The wind was just barely over the allowable at 2.1 meters per second.

All-American Krystal Ward was forced to withdraw from the second day of the women's heptathlon with an illness.
