HOUSTON - Senior Chris Carter jumped his way to All-American status by finishing 8th place in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon.

Carter jumped 16.14m/52-11.5 on his third attempt. He was an All-American in the indoor season with his fourth-place finish and only two inches separated Carter from repeating that finish at the Outdoor Championships.

"I appreciate the honor," said Carter. "It was great to go out and get something like that in my last season here at Houston. It wasn't my best day, there were certain things I didn't execute as well as I should've but it's still great to see all the hard work paying off."

With Carter's point, the men's team finished in 64th place.

Lamar Delaney (15.41m/50-6.75) finished 18th in the event.

The women's 4x100m relay team had a disappointing day as they were unable to finish the race. Heading around the final curve, the Cougars were positioned in third place with their star 100m runner Grecia Bolton waiting to make an impact on the race. But as the final exchange went down, another team fell on the track in the lane next to Houston and it appeared that was enough to throw off the handoff.

"Sometimes the meet goes your way, and sometimes it doesn't," said head coach Leroy Burrell. "We're still learning what we need to get done in order to do better at a meet like this. We still have some work to do but we'll be back next year. Our women's team looks very strong for next season and our men will probably have even more qualifiers next year. Our program is heading in the right direction."

Texas A&M won both the men's and women's team competitions for the third straight year.
