Men's 4x400 Relay Sets School Record at Texas A&M Reveille Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Houston track and field team kicked off the 2012-13 indoor slate at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The men's 4x400 relay team broke the school record of 3:08.52 with a 3:07.60 performance.
The Cougars started the day off with the 60m hurdles. Sophomore Sade Mariah Greenidge placed first with a time of 8.59, followed by sophomore Dominique Brisco, who clocked a time of 8.68, to finish second overall. For the men, freshman Isaac Williams represented Houston for the first time, placing third with a mark of 8.27.
Freshman Lashon Collins, led the way for the Cougars in the men's 60m dash, finishing in second place with a time of 6.78. Senior Errol Nolan opened his senior season taking the silver after crossing the finish line at the 6.82 mark.
Senior Simon Stewart also finished in second, jumping 7.03m (23' 0.75") in the long jump. Freshman Sean Spiehler debuted placing fourth with a length of 6.86m (22' 6.25"). For the women, junior Ngozi Onwumere jumped a 5.59m (18' 4.25") mark, placing second overall.
Junior Emily Nnokwam took home a third-place finish in the women's weight throw with a mark of 17.26m (56' 8"). Junior Nicole Benton threw the weight a distance of 16.57m (54' 4.5") to place fifth. Samatha Taylor (15.34m; 50' 4") and Justine Price (15.19m; 49' 10") took seventh- and eighth-place respectively. Taylor also threw the shot put at the Invitational. The Corrigan, Texas native, took home the bronze with a mark of 14.41m (47' 3.5").
In the vertical jumps, sophomore Khalysia Mayo cleared the bar at the 1.69m (5' 6.50") mark to claim second place in the high jump, while freshman Maureen Redmond took home a fourth-place finish with a 1.59m (5' 2.5") jump. Freshman Jennifer Blair notched a sixth-place finish with a height of 3.26m (10' 8.25") in the pole vault.
Despite finishing second overall, the men's 4x400 relay team comprised of Errol Nolan, Garrett Hughey, Eric Futch, and Kelvin Furlough clipped the previous school record of 3:08.52 by a second to set a new program record with a time of 3:70.60. On the women's side, Onwumere teamed up with freshmen Mayora Young and Kelli Hardnett, and senior Brittany Wallace to take home third-place with a time of 3:45.98.
