Track & Field To Face Stiff Competition At New Mexico Meet

HOUSTON – After two home meets to kick off the indoor season, the University of Houston track and field team heads to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Cherry & Silver Invitational set this weekend.
Field events begin tomorrow at 4 p.m. (MST) followed by a few running events. The meet schedule continues Saturday with field events starting at 10 a.m. while the running events begin 45 minutes later.
The University of New Mexico will host the meet in preparations for the 2014 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships later this March. Teams from across the country will be in attendance this weekend including competition from the Big 12, SEC, PAC 12 and ACC.
Six top-25 men’s teams and four top-25 women’s teams lead the competition including the University of Texas (top-ranked women and 15th-ranked men), Florida State (No. 7 men, No. 19 women) and Georgia (No. 13 men, No. 5 women). Other ranked teams competing are Arizona (No. 17 men), Arkansas (No. 7 women), Stanford (No. 20 men) and UTEP (No. 22 men).
American Athletic Conference rivals UConn will also be in attendance.
