Cougars' Next Task is Charlie Thomas Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Houston Cougar Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams return to action for the Charlie Thomas Invitational, a 2-day meet hosted by Texas A&M. The invitational begins on Friday with distance and multi events and concludes on Saturday.

Meet Information

Action at the Charlie Thomas Invitational is split over two days, however action on Friday will be brief. Athletes will be in competition in just the men’s and women’s distance medley relay and the 5,000-meters as well as the first four events of the heptathlon and the pentathlon competition.

Sophomore Amere Lattin returns to action in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday. Lattin enters the competition with the No. 16 mark in the nation in the event this season with a personal best of 7.85.

In the sprints, senior Tori Williams will make her return to the track in the 200-meter dash. Williams has the nation’s 30th best time this season at 23.80, which she clocked at the Mark Colligan Memorial in mid-January.

Three of Houston’s long jumpers will be in action, carrying with them some of the top marks in the NCAA this season. On the women’s side, freshman Samiyah Samuels enters the meet with the No. 27 mark in the nation this season after jumping 19-11.5 (6.08m) a week ago at the Houston Invitational. For the men, Trumaine Jefferson and Antwan Dickerson look to continue their strong seasons after each set personal bests last week. Jefferson enters with a top mark of 25-2.0 (7.67m, No. 14 NCAA) and Dickerson’s best is 24-4.25 (7.42m, No. 46 NCAA).



With the majority of the American Athletic Conference spread out along the east coast, the Charlie Thomas Invitational provides a rare opportunity for the Cougars to meet a conference foe before the American Championships. Cincinnati will be in attendance at the invitational giving the Cougars an early look at a conference foe.
