Track & Field Splits Squad This Weekend

HOUSTON – Building up to the peak of the 2014 indoor season, the University of Houston track and field program splits this weekend as the majority of the team travels to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the throwers will stay for the Houston Tune Up meet.
The No. 27 Cougars will face their toughest field of the season in Arkansas with 13 of the top 50 nationally ranked men’s teams attending the meet. Some of the top ranked student-athletes will represent host school No. 1 Arkansas, No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 6 Florida State, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Alabama, No. 13 Texas, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 18 LSU, No. 23 Illinois, No. 24 USC and No. 30 Baylor.
On the women’s side, 11 of the top 30 nationally ranked teams will be competing including No. 1 Texas, host school No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Kentucky, No. 10 LSU, No. 11 Kansas, No. 14 South Carolina, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 24 Oklahoma State, No. 25 Baylor, No. 27 Florida State and No. 28 Texas Tech.
The two-day meet kicks off with the women’s pole vault and long jump Friday at noon. The women’s mile run will also kick off the running events at noon. Day two will begin at noon with the men’s pole vault, high jump and triple jump as well as the women’s high jump and triple jump. Running events are slated for a 1 p.m. start beginning with the women’s 200-meter dash.

HOUSTON TUNE UP
More than 600 student-athletes from Houston Baptist, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Lamar and UTSA will be competing.
The meet kicks off at 11 a.m. with the men’s weight throw competition. The women’s weight throw will immediately follow the men’s and the shot put event will directly follow the weight throw. To keep on schedule, the men’s and women’s triple jump will immediately follow the men’s and women’s long jump. Running events will begin at 2 p.m. with the ‘B’ section of the women’s 200-meter dash.
