HOUSTON – For the second consecutive week and the fourth time during the indoor slate, senior sprinter Elijah Hall has been named The American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hall turned in an impressive weekend at the Tyson Invitational, beginning with the 60-meter dash, where he posted the second fastest time in school history. Hall qualified fourth overall for the finals with a mark of 6.65, before returning for the final race, where he crossed the line in 6.58, to pick up his first victory of the weekend and move to No. 3 on the NCAA list this season.
Hall returned the following day in Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the finals of the 200-meter dash. Running in the final heat, Hall finished the 1-lap race in 20.52, just one one-hundredth of a second off his school record mark, to take the gold. Hall’s time would have been No. 5 in the nation had he not already had a better this season.
Hall capped his weekend with another victory, this time as the second leg of the men’s 4x400-meter relay that broke the school record. Hall helped the Cougars run 3:04.18 to snap the previous best mark set earlier this season at the Mark Colligan Memorial and move to No. 4 in the NCAA this season.
The award marks back-to-back weeks the Katy, Texas, native has won the honor and is the fourth this season for Hall and the sixth of his career. Hall also claimed the honor in back-to-back weeks on Jan. 16 and 23 and was named athlete of the week twice during the 2017 campaign (one indoor, one outdoor).
