HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field program will travel to six different states for the 2014 outdoor season beginning at the end of March, announced head coach Leroy Burrell Tuesday morning.
Houston starts its outdoor season with a trip to San Antonio for the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational March 21-22. Four short days later, qualifying Cougars head to the Capital for the legendary Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays March 26-29. Those who do not qualify will compete at Rice University's Victor Lopez Classic March 27-29.
The distance group makes the first out-of-state trip of the season to compete at the Stanford Invitational (April 4-5) in Stanford, Calif. The Cougars return to the Lone Star State for the Texas Invitational in Austin (April 12). The sprints and relays squad will travel to California the following weekend for the Mt. SAC Relays (April 17-18) while others travel to the UTSA Invitational (April 19).
The squads will split during the April 24-26 weekend for the Penn Relay Carnival in Philadelphia, Pa., and the Texas State Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas.
Houston travels to Tampa, Fla., for the inaugural American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 2-4 hosted by University of South Florida.
Closing out the regular season, the Cougars will attend the Georgia Tech Invitational as a last chance meet to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor West Preliminaries May 29-31 in Fayetteville, Ark. Those who finish in the top 12 of their events will advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships slated for June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
