HOUSTON - Chris Carter set a personal best distance of 16.70m/54-9.5 to take fourth place in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas. Saturday afternoon. The senior from Hearne, Texas, earned All-American status with his finish.
Carter led the competition going into the sixth flight of jumps. But Carter faulted on his final attempts and was unable to better his mark. The mark is good for second best in program history.
Will Claye (Florida) won the event, setting a new meet record of 17.32m/56-10.
With the five points scored by Carter, Houston placed 39th overall. Florida, the defending men's national champions, and Oregon, the defending women's champions, held onto their titles.
Senior Wesley Bray was scratched from the heptathlon competition.

The Cougar track and field team concludes the indoor season with the meet. The team travels to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, next week for the Puerto Rico Spring Break Classic.
