HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team will open its 2009 outdoor season this weekend, making the short trip to TSU to compete in the 58th annual TSU relays, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Texas Southern Alexander Durley Sports Complex.

The throwing events and pole vault competitions will be held at the University of Houston inside the Carl Lewis Track Complex.

The two-day meet gets under way at 9 a.m., Friday, with the men's and women's long jump competitions, while running events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the 3,000-meter run.

The meet continues on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and will conclude with the 4X400-meter relays, which are slated to start at 8 p.m.

The TSU Relays is one of the nation's largest track meets, hosting not only collegiate athletes, but also high school, middle school and professional athletes.

The Cougars will look to build off yet another successful indoor season, which saw the men's team win its third consecutive Conference USA title and the women's team finish second at the conference championships.
