HOUSTON - University of Houston senior Chris Carter was named Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
"I'm excited for Chris for his excellent performance this year," said head coach Leroy Burrell. "He's a leader on this team and did well all year long and really showed up strong in the biggest meets of the year. This was a well deserved award for Chris."
Carter was named an All-American after finishing in fourth-place at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Carter's mark of 16.70m/54-9.5 ranks as the second best in program history.
Carter swept the long and triple jump competition at the C-USA Indoor Championships. It was his third conference crown in the indoor triple jump. Carter has also won two-straight C-USA Outdoor triple jump titles.
This is the first C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Year for Houston, as this is the third year the conference office has awarded the honor.
