HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field teams will return to action as they make the trip across town for the Rice Victor Lopez Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Holloway Field/Ley Track on the Rice campus.
Collegiate competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m., on Friday with the men's hammer throw, while running events start at 6:45 p.m., with the 1500m runs. Competition will resume on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the start of the men's shot put. Running events will begin at noon with the B section of the men's 100m hurdles.
Along with Houston, the meet will feature high school competition as well as universities such as Rice, Notre Dame, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American, Southwestern, SFA, Texas Southern, HBU, and Lamar.
Scoring for high school and collegiate competition will be 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per youth and can be purchased at the ticket gate near the entrance of Holloway Field.
At last weekend's TCU Invitational in Ft. Worth, Texas, three Cougars claimed first place in their respective events. For the men, distance runner Drevan Anderson-Kaapa won the 1500m and Simon Stewart took the long jump competition with his 7.51m mark. For the women, freshman Dominique Brisco won the triple jump competition with her jump of 12.4m.
The Cougars will travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays on March 28-31, hosted by the University of Texas.
