April 2, 2008
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team returns to action this week, as the Cougars travel to Austin to compete in the 2008 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Wednesday through Saturday. The four-day meet is both a collegiate and high school meet and will feature many of the nation's top track and field athletes. Competition will begin at noon Wednesday with men's decathlon. Other events scheduled for the first day include the women's heptathlon, the men's 3,000m steeplechase and the men's and women's 800m, 1500m and 5,000m runs. Thursday will conclude the decathlon and heptathlon events and begin the prelims for the running events with the 400-meter hurdles as well as the men's and women's 4X800-meter relays. Friday and Saturday's events will begin at 9:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., respectively. Both days will feature college and high school division races and field events. Awards will be given to the top three athletes or relay teams in each event. Following the meet, one collegiate and one high school team will be named Outstanding Team and one female and one male will be named the Outstanding Performer. The Relays are held on the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium on the UT campus. With seating of 20,000, the complex features a nine-lane European oval track and an all-inclusive site for the field events. Houston heads to Austin only three days after competing at the LSU Tiger Relays in Baton Rouge, La., last weekend. Four Cougars set regional qualifying marks at the meet, including Brandon Hubbard (discus), Ashley Bryant (discus), Dayo Ogunniyi (long jump), and Quin'shundolyn McPherson (long jump).
