    Three Cougars to Compete at U.S. Junior Championships

    HOUSTON– The University of Houston track and field team will split up this week as the Cougars head to the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La.

    Houston’s distance runners and field event student-athletes are set to travel to Walnut, Calif. to compete in the 55th annual Mt. Sac Relays on Thursday–Saturday at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College. The meet is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. (CDT), Thursday, with the women’s 1,500-meter run and concludes at 8:45 p.m. (CDT), Saturday with the elite women’s invitational 4x400-meter relay.

    This will be the third consecutive year the Cougars have competed in this prestigious meet. Last season, the All-American women’s 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay team took first in the event with a school-record breaking time of 54.49. The team broke the previous record of 1:00.60.

    The Cougars will send the sprinters and hurdlers to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Houston last competed at this meet in 2011, when 21 Cougars notched new personal bests.

    Houston will take to the track at 11 a.m., Saturday, with the women’s 100-meter dash. The meet concludes with the men’s 4x400-meter relay at 5:25 p.m.

    The Cougars will travel to Philadelphia for the 119th Penn Relays at historical Franklin Field on April 25-27.
