Houston Signs Justin Davis, Brandon James, Steven Jones, Chris Tindle and Ashley Bryant
April 18, 2006 Houston - University of Houston track and field coach Leroy Burrell announced that Justin Davis, Brandon James, Steven Jones, Chris Tingle and Ashley Bryant have signed to compete for the Cougars in 2007. James is a sprinter at Cuero High School. He won the 100 meters at the District 26-3A Championships and at the 2005 Texas Relays with a wind-aided time of 10.43 seconds. He was the 2005 Class 3A state champion in the 200 meters with a career-best 21.25 seconds. He also ran the anchor leg on Cuero's state championship 4x100-meter relay team as a junior. Davis is a sprinter from Westfield High School in Spring, Texas, and has the State's fifth-fastest overall time in the 400 meters with 47.89 seconds. He ran the anchor leg on Westfield's District 22-5A winning 1600-meter relay team and finished as the runner-up in the 400 meters. A sprinter from Dickinson (Texas) High School, Tindle was the District 23-4A champion in the 200 meters with a time of 21.74 after finishing as the district runner-up in the 100 meters with a time of 10.68 seconds. He had a third-place finish in the 100 meters at the 2005 UIL Class 4A State Championships with a wind-aided 10.52 seconds. His personal best time in the 200 meters is 21.31 seconds. Jones is a hurdler from Lexington (Texas) High School, is ranked among the Top 10 Hurdlers in the State by TexasTrack.com with a career-best time of 14.14 seconds. He won the 110-meter hurdles at the District 25-2A Championships and at the 2006 Texas Relays with a wind-aided time of 14.32 seconds. He was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles at the Class 2A State Championships with a time of 14.27 seconds. He also was the runner-up at the 2005 Texas Relays with a wind-aided time of 14.30 seconds. A thrower at Deer Park High School, Bryant ranks among Top Four girl's discus throwers in the State by TexasTrack.com with a mark of 146-6. She was the runner-up in the discus at the 2005 UIL Class 5A Championships with a throw of 140-7.
